Logging in and out from The Board

Logging In

I assume if you got this far you already know how to login but here is a brief description of what happens.

When you first connect to The Board be it through telnet or dial-up connection you area presented with a brief message and then a login prompt. At this point no terminal settings have been established so there is no color or any other ansi codes used. At the prompt you can enter either your choosen login name or you can use guest to sign on as a guest. After sign on the users default shell is invoked. The default shell for most users will be the menu system for The Board. The menu shell will connect you to the server and notify other users online that you have signed on. Then the news fie will be displayed, and after that the system will check to see if you have any new mail. If you do have new mail the mail reader will be invoked and you will have the option to read your new messages.

Guest Account

The guest account is mainly used for users who don't have an account on The Board. Through this account they are presented with a brief introductions to The Board and access to the guest forum. This account is very limited and won't allow the user to do very much. At this point the user can send a request to the sysop to create an account for them with regular user access.
Also if a user has forgotten his or her password they can contact the sysop though this account.
